Universal Alloy is a leading global provider of hard alloy extrusions and precision-engineered products for aircraft manufacturing and industrial clients across the world. When the company sought to expand its combination aluminum extrusion facility and corporate office facility outside of Atlanta to meet the needs of the local industrial market, Wakefield Beasley was hired to design the focused renovation. The firm was tasked with blending 10,000 square feet of office space with plant facilities that could accommodate the production requirements and the world’s largest hydraulic extension press. The company worked closely with the contractor to design specialized pits and foundations for the existing hydraulic press – and to accommodate the specialized manufacturing equipment while fast-tracking design documents for mechanical and electrical systems in the facility. The expansions were staggered to avoid disruption to the press and allow for highly specialized design components in each area of the facility.
