Barry Sallas

Director of Charleston Studio

Barry Sallas is a personable architect who enjoys building relationships as much as designing buildings. To Barry, client service is first and foremost and is the key to project success and customer retention. When beginning a new project, he likes to get to know his clients on a personal level to understand their drivers and what they are trying to achieve before diving into the project. Starting with a comprehensive view of his clients, their business and their needs provides context to the overall project goals and translates into a successful design execution.

Barry always wanted to be an Architect but holds dual degrees in music and architecture. He believes there is coordination between his two passions in the way architecture and musical arrangements are structured and the way each creates flow and allows personal engagement to construct their final form and people’s experience of them. Ultimately, it was his love of drawing, designing the built environment and seeing buildings take shape and create space that led him to practice architecture full-time.

With over 20 years of experience in management and design, Barry has developed solutions for a wide mix of clients and project types including corporate office, higher education, K-12, mixed-use developments and master planning assignments. His experience includes serving as Director of Practice Groups and Studios for leading architectural firms and the design, management and oversight of significant multi-faceted and multi-phased mixed-use developments across the Southeastern United States. The diversity and experience of his background provides a uniquely comprehensive perspective and has fueled his passion for providing high-impact environments while maintaining an ecologically responsive approach, allowing for people-centered, contextually-based design solutions.

As the Director of the Charleston Studio, Barry is responsible for managing the overall direction and operation of the Studio including full supervision of all aspects related to success, productivity, profitability, and integrity. He also researches, plans, designs, and administers building projects to ensure that project goals are met and client needs are fulfilled. Barry handles day to day activities of multiple projects, including client contact, engineering and consultant solicitation and coordination, along with all staff assignments.
