Hyatt Place Hotel
On game days, Athens is flooded with football fans, many with requirements for hotel space within close proximity to the University of Georgia’s stadium. Wakefield Beasley was hired to develop a new hotel amenity in the downtown area that would capitalize on this demand for urban lodging options. The site was very compact, with only inches of space to spare to accommodate the required 190 guest room module. Massive 20 foot grade changes, on the site, the hotel’s connection to the Classic Center convention facility and concealed service access, were a good fit for the creativity of Wakefield Beasleys hospitality design team. Efficient master planning set the foundation for project success. The hotel is a linear design that runs parallel to the street and provides the best street presence and guest engagement while complying with the Athens Clarke County Downtown guidelines. By executing a clear and simple master plan early on, Wakefield Beasley was able to deliver a unique and dramatic architectural design while solving project challenges. Ultimately, the firm was able to deliver a cost-effective design solution for a new hotel with a restaurant, fitness center, and meeting rooms that maximizes the guest experience and expands the scale and types of events the Classic Center will be able to attract in the future.
