When the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) endeavored to develop a new contemporary design hotel brand to emphasize fitness, health and wellness, Wakefield Beasley was chosen to develop the flagship design concept. For the prototype 131 key EVEN hotel, the firm was tasked with situating the new structure on the site’s irregular shape. The existing grade changes across the property lines and the existing office park’s storm water management strategy all greatly influenced the site and building design. Wakefield Beasley worked closely with the civil engineer to develop site solutions and a building footprint that addressed these challenges. Concurrently, the firm worked closely with IHG to articulate the programming and design choices required to deliver the new brand within the desired budget. The final product includes state-of-the-art fitness and wellness spaces that enable professional trainers to work with guests on site, in-room fitness areas, outdoor garden space, green walls and dining options that offer healthy fare. Wakefield Beasley’s unique combination of boutique and branded hospitality design expertise enabled IHG to bring this dynamic, new brand concept to life. IHG will utilize this prototype to hone and solidify the brand and ultimately implement it at other locations across the country.
